LEAD:
Khalil Oliviere and
Charlie Haskell bring so much energy and passion to their roles as Malcolm X and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in ''The Meeting'' that they almost make this play get up and move. And Clifford Taylor as Rashad, Malcolm X's bodyguard, is forceful enough to make one wish, the playwright, had not moved him offstage during the long confrontation between the two principals, which is the heart of the play. These young high school actors re-live an era assumed to be dead – but as they discover -- is very much alive, well and intact. The result is a powerful psychological drama of slavery’s continuing reckless effects on the African-American mind and spirit. The work casts a spotlight on the gut wrenching struggle of modern day African-Americans fighting against the shackles of post slavery syndrome – as it maintains a subliminal strong hold through language and imagery
If you can stand it pry loose your shackles and join AGCT’s and Anacostia Senior High School’s dynamic cast December 19 – 21, 2008.
The play opens December 19, @ 6pm, December 20, 2008 @ 3pm & 6pm, and December 21, @ 4:30pm is the final performance. All performances are free to the public. For more information please contact Jackie Carter at 202-215-2650.
