A Bicycle Tour

In 1972 members of Don't Tear It Down pedal-powered through "groovy, threatened and historic Washington." Join DCPL and the DC Historic Preservation Office as we retrace this historic ride to Franklin Park, Logan Circle, Mt. Vernon Square, and Pennsylvania Avenue. Led by HPO's Brendan Myer, this tour will highlight the revitalization to these areas (metros, sports arena, and convention center) and the vital role historic preservation has played over the last 40 years.

Your own bike and helmet are required to participate in this tour.

A Public Knowledge Tour: Mount Pleasant Library

Join DCPL for a tour of the historic Mount Pleasant Library! Led by project architects Dale Stewart and Dean Hutchenson of CORE, the construction tour will highlight the renovation of this important historic resource and the incorporation of new construction on the site.

Purpose-built in 1923 as a neighborhood library, this Beaux-Arts structure was designed by accomplished New York architect Edward Lippincott Tilton and was the last of three DC neighborhood library’s built with funds provided by Andrew Carnegie. Designed to harmonize with the monumental architecture along 16th Street, the library is a contributing resource within the Mount Pleasant Historic District.

Walking Tours of St. Elizabeths West Campus

DCPL and GSA hold monthly walking tours of St. Elizabeths West Campus that are free and open to the public. The campus, where construction began in 1852, is a National Historic Landmark.

Tours of the St. Elizabeths campus are being offered on a limited basis depending on the course of construction activity. Tours will include an historical overview of the site, access to the point, and exterior views of the Center Building and Borrows Cottage.

Reservations are required. No walk-ons permitted.
