Anacostia Playhouse opens doors, raises roof with first event

The Advoc8te attended this Saturday's 'Raise The Roof 2.0' event hosted by the Anacostia Playhouse and it was wonderful! Although the playhouse is not 100% finished it looked great and it was easy to see what a wonderful addition (and coup) this will turn out to be for Anacostia, Ward 8 and East of the River.

As Councilmember Tommy Wells said at the event, "it is great to see people from both sides of the river get together on this side [eotr] and have a fun."

Congratulations to Adele and Julia and their entire team for making this dream a reality. Including pictures below. Also including information on the upcoming very first play at the new Anacostia Playhouse, Broke-ology.

P.S. Be sure to get your tickets now for BROKE-OLOGY, the first performance at the Anacostia Playhouse! There was a reading at Saturday's event and it was amazing! I am looking forward to this performance for sure.

This stirring family drama follows the King family, William King is a single father who has successfully raised two sons in challenging circumstances. Overcoming the death of his wife and facing dreams deferred, William has instilled responsibility, loyalty, love and obligation in his sons who are now charged with his care as illness slowly starts to take over. Now the King family must decide how to embrace each of their lives.

Broke-ology will run at the Anacostia Playhouse, 2020 Shannon Place SE, from August 14 – September 8, 2013:
Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 7pm.
