Let there be light! The 'Anacostia' sign is back!
East of the River residents love our icons, the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, the Big Chair to name a few. For a few years one of our most beloved icons, the famed "Anacostia" neon sign on the corner of Good Hope Rd and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave has been dark, felt by many to be another example of Anacostia's demolition by neglect problem.
With the renovations being done on the building by the group behind the Community Pharmacy by Walgreens (which is not in fact Walgreens retailer) the exterior of the building is once again ago in light, perhaps a silver lining in a cloud for residents who were hoping for a more robust retailer at Anacostia's gateway.
