(Washington, DC) — Join the Black Artists of DC (BADC) and the DC Arts Center (DCAC) as they collaborate to present five women in the arts that live and create in the District.
The opening reception of FOCUS GROUP: Four Walls, Four Five Women will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 from 7PM-9PM at the DC Arts Center.
This exhibition will uplift and examine the usage and interpretation of material amongst five Black women artists under the age of 40. Come observe the interaction between artworks that overlap mixed media collage and photography with a site specific drawing installation. See how these women artists compare notes and broach discussions on the effectiveness their chosen media and materials to communicate their individual ideas and values.
The DCAC is located in Adams Morgan, one of Washington's most culturally diverse neighborhoods. DCAC is a hub of alternative arts activity in Washington; and, for many, represents the first rung on the ladder to a professional arts career. DCAC is both a meeting place for ideas and visions and a source of strength and encouragement for artists, as well as audiences.
FOCUS GROUP: Four Walls,
Four
Five Women is the second in a series of collaborations between DCAC and Black Artists of DC (BADC). The mission of BADC is to create a Black artist community to promote, develop and validate the culture, artistic expressions and aspirations of past and present artists of Black-Afrikan ancestry in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
