Fenty Administration Opens New Courts at Hillcrest Recreation Center

Washington, DC) -- Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and Ximena Hartsock, Acting Director of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, joined Ward 7 residents to open the Hillcrest Recreation Center's newly resurfaced tennis courts. The District is celebrating DC Tennis Week this week, August 1 - 9, 2009.

"DC Tennis Week is the perfect time to open our new tennis courts here at Hillcrest Recreation Center," said Mayor Fenty. "Updating and improving the District's tennis facilities gives our residents more recreational opportunities to enjoy."

The new tennis courts at Hillcrest Recreation Center, located at 3100 Denver Street, SE, feature state-of-the-art Premier Court® cushioned play surfacing system. Project construction began on May 28, 2009, and was completed in just one month. Premier Court ® is an all-weather cushioned sports surface, and the playing surface is made of a patented composite with a standard acrylic recreational coating. It is designed to eliminate cracking and prevent weathering. New tennis nets and fencing around the courts were also installed during the project.

"DPR works daily to enhance the programs and facilities we provide for District residents," said DPR Acting Director Ximena Hartsock. "The new tennis courts at Hillcrest Recreation Center are another opportunity for us to fulfill both of those goals."

Over 40 youth now participate in daily tennis programs at Hillcrest, including the DPR Youth Tennis Pilot program. Adult tennis classes are offered on Wednesdays and Fridays; and senior tennis classes are offered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
