Washington, DC – March 16, 2010 Mayor Adrian Fenty and officials from the US Department of Treasury officiated this week at the groundbreaking of a “scattered site” housing redevelopment in the District of Columbia. The three sites – 1350 Jasper Place SE, 1814 29th Street SE, and 1708 T Street SE- represent the first project in Washington, DC, to receive funding from the federal government’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus fund. It is also the first project funded by the new partnership between Wells Fargo and Wachovia Bank.

The three multifamily rental sites will receive substantial renovations performed in accordance with the 2008 Green Community Standards and will include energy efficient appliances and fixtures, energy star roof and windows, and no VOC paints. In total, 98 one-two- and three-bedroom rental apartments will be created in the Congress Heights and Hillcrest neighborhoods.

Wiencek+Associates are the architects for the project; William C. Smith + Co is the developer, and WCS Construction is the general contractor. The $18 million project has over 40% CBE participation to date.
