The Ward 8 Democrats will be holding their convention and election for new officers on Saturday, September 17, 2011 starting at 12pm at the Savoy Elementary School (2400 Shannon Place SE).

Ms. Natalie Williams counts her blessings every time she thinks about how far she’s come over the years. She began her professional career as a television editor in 1989, and years later, she is now the CEO of her own company, BlitzAssociates LLC, a full service public relations firm based in Washington DC. Her greatest area of work is in the political arena where she has represented hundreds of elected officials, from the White House to City Halls, in their quest for improving the lives of constituents across the country.
During her career as a journalist, Ms. Williams covered many major news stories across the country including: the Olympic Bombing, the unforgettable OJ Simpson Trial, the controversial 2000 Presidential Elections, the Impeachment of Bill Clinton, and most recently, the 2001 Attack on America.
Ms. Williams has received numerous journalism awards for her outstanding works which include: an Associated Press Award, three Emmy-Award nominations for her coverage of TWA Flight 800 crash, Cleveland Underwater, and Hip Hop Music, 20 years later. Ms. Williams has also worked as a Radio News Correspondent and as an Entertainment Writer for several monthly publications.
Over the past 13 years, Ms. Williams has successfully combined the world of mass media into one. Today, her company represents an array of individuals, businesses, and organizations from the arts and entertainment fields to government affairs --- whose missions focus on improving the quality of life for minorities e.g. programs and services.
Most recently, she was named and recognized as one the Nation Capitol’s Who’s Who in Black Washington DC, by the world-renowned publication Who’s Who in America.
M. Jay Lee, ANC Chairman 8D, 1st Vice President Candidate
Mr. Lee is a life-long member of the Democratic Party. He is a native Washingtonian and a resident of Ward 8 for the past 19 years. Currently, he represents the ANC 8D05 Section of Ward 8. Since taking office in January 2007 he has been busy in his community addressing the needs of his constituents in Eagles' Crossing, Oak Park, and the Wingate Apartments.Always a champion for the under-represented, Mr. Lee assists families with financial support from the District Government and serves as a liaison for tenant-landlord disputes. He steps in when constituents need help whether it is with utility bills or when they need employment opportunities.
In just 4 years of service to the ANC Commission, Mr. Lee was elected among his colleagues as Chairman of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8D. As a long time resident of Washington, DC, Mr. Lee attended W.B. Patterson Elementary School. He later graduated from McKinley Tech High School with a vocal scholarship to the University of the District of Columbia.
Mary Buckley, Former ANC 8B01, 2nd Vice President Candidate
Ms. Buckley is a life-long member of the Democratic Party, and a longtime member and participant of the Ward 8 Democrats. Her presence in Ward 8 consisted of personal assistance to needy residents and as a community activist. She has been involved in Shaw's Ward 2 religious community with the teaching of youths since 1996.During her youth she worked as a volunteer in 1967 with Operation Breadbasket (P.U.S.H) on Chicago's south side assisting resident with food and housing. As a youth she worked with the local NAACP and as a result was among the first group of black students to integrate her high school in Mississippi in the 1960's. Her parents became victims of that integration by being forced off the land.
She graduated from Northeastern University where she often recruited black students for political and campus demonstrations. She later received a master's degree from City University system in New York. Following retirement from the Department of Justice in 2007, she employed with the DC Government in health care where she currently works full time.
Darrin Davis, Owner of Anacostia River Realty, Correspondent Secretary Candidate
Mr. Davis is a life-long member of the Democratic Party, a long time resident of Washington DC, and an active participant in Anacostia where he currently lives.He received his Bachelors Degree from Howard where he studied Culture and Communications. In 2007, he traveled the country with now Secretary of State Mrs. Hillary Clinton for Barack Obama's presidential campaign where he learned first-hand the dynamics of the Democratic Party, its political agenda, and simply how their agenda effects the lives of everyday people.
Inspired by President Obama's victory, he returned home after the election and opened my own real estate agency, ANACOSTIA RIVER REALTY, a new and progressive real estate & property management firm that's changing the face of East of the Anacostia River living in Washington, DC.
LaToshia Artis, Employee, Council of the District of Columbia, Recording Secretary Candidate
Ms. Artis is a life-long member of the Democratic Party and a native of Washington who has spent all of her life in Ward 8. She was educated in the DC Public School System. She attended Birney Elementary, Douglass Jr. High and Ballou Senior High School. She currently lives in the Bellevue community.Ms. Artis has been very active in Ward Eight politics. She has been a volunteer on several political campaigns, both Ward and At-large races, and is presently working as an Administrative Assistant at the Council of the District of Columbia.
She has also worked in Ward 8 at one of the Ward's leading non-profit organizations, serving as its bookkeeper and program researcher. She has also worked as a camp coordinator for at-risk youth and a production assistant at DCPS Channel 28.
Nardyne Jefferies, Financial and Data Entry Professional
Ms. Jefferies is a native Washingtonian who currently resides in the Bellevue area. She is a life-long member of the Democratic Party and fully supports its principles. She is committed to sharing her professional work experience and skill sets in the areas of accounting, finance, bookkeeping, and data entry, to the Ward 8 Democrats Organization.Over the years, she has gained in-depth knowledge of the legislative process and the importance of a strong political organization to enhance and preserve the quality of life for all District residents, in general, and in Ward 8 residents in particular.
Her advocacy on behalf of District residents spans over a period of 10 years. Some of her efforts have included testifying before the Council of the District of Columbia, meeting with community leaders and groups, talking with parents, and encouraging young people to be more responsible. She is an active supporter of the DC Rape Crisis Center, Habitat for Humanity, and the Ronald McDonald House.
