Is this progress? 5 months ago today ANC 8A met to discuss Anacostia main street shelter
It's amazing what has (and hasn't) taken place in the five months since this August 2, 2011 Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8A meeting took place, shortly after the community became aware of Calvary Women's Services plan to open a homeless shelter on Good Hope Rd SE.
- Calvary refused to meet with the community and after six months of advocating a meeting has now been scheduled for Thursday, January 5th at 7pm at the UPO Anacostia Center
- CM Marion Barry reversed his initial stance (listen Ward 8 Consituent Services Representative Jackie Wards comments) to now support the main street shelter
- Concerns continue to grow regarding the oversaturation of social services in Ward 8, specifically in the business districts.
At the end of this clip you can hear ANC Commissioner Greta Fuller state that is all well and good that our city officials say they "support us" but what are they willing to do?
The question still seems to be unanswered. What are they willing to do?
