Children ages 5-17 learn the importance of composting and organic waste management through a fun and interactive make-your-own-compost activity. Using cardboard from toilet tissue rolls, along with other compostable materials like fruit and vegetable scraps, leaves, and coffee grounds, youth can create their own mini compost bins. They'll learn about the composting process, including how organic waste breaks down into nutrient-rich soil, and the role composting plays in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enriching soil health.

This workshop is led by Kathleen Bostick is a recent graduate from Spelman College currently serving the District of Columbia as the 2024 Miss Columbia Heights within the Miss America Organization. Her mission is to inspire children and women to seamlessly blend art and science, fostering a brighter future.
