MahoganyBooks, in partnership with the Anacostia Arts Center, is thrilled to announce an afternoon of jazz. The event begins at 2:30PM with the editor and contributors of the recently released book, DC Jazz: Stories of Jazz Music in Washington DC, discussing the often overlooked and little known history of DC’s contribution to the growth and impact of jazz. Co-editor, Blair Ruble, will lead several book contributors through a wide ranging conversation touching on DC jazz institutions, the cultural hotbed of Seventh and U Streets, as well as the great Duke Ellington’s time in the nation’s capital. The panel will also open up for questions allowing for attendees to probe decades of knowledge around this classic American art form birthed out of Black life.

At the conclusion of the panel Blair Ruble and the contributors will autograph* each attendees book while being treated to live jazz courtesy of the Kent Miller Quartet, “a kind of big band, straight-ahead jazz throwback” led by D.C.-based acoustic bassist, Kent Miller.
