Dec 11 | Groundingbreaking on Southeast Tennis and Learning Center South Expansion

Tuesday, December 10, 2024

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, December 11 at 3 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will break ground on the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) South Expansion. She will be joined by Former DC First Lady and SETLC Founder/CEO Ms. Cora Masters Barry, United States Tennis Association (USTA) President-Elect Brian Vahaly, and community members. The $18 million project will grow the SETLC from 12 to 19 tennis courts, from one to five pickleball courts, expand recreational opportunities and services for Ward 8 residents, and enhance the District’s ability to host international junior tennis tournaments.

Built in 2001, the SETLC is a world class, state-of-the-art $50 million facility, which has serviced over 75,000 children and youth in the District. A highlight of the SETLC is its 48,000 square-foot indoor facility, the Williams Arena, named after Venus and Serena Williams. The SETLC has become an attraction for colleges, universities, tennis championships, and other major events.
