[PR] Veteran MPD Member Passes Away From COVID-19

With a heavy heart, the Metropolitan Police Department announces that 53 year-old Senior Police Officer Keith Williams passed away yesterday from COVID-19 complications. Officer Williams, most recently assigned to the School Safety Division, had over 31 years of service with MPD.

“Officer Williams was a dedicated and longstanding member of the MPD family. His over 30 years of service to the District of Columbia is a testament to his dedication to making a difference in our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends as he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of us here at MPD." – Chief Peter Newsham.

 Prior to his time at MPD, Officer Williams began his career in DC Government as a custodian with DC Public Schools. He started at MPD in 1989 at the Seventh District and served in various assignments until his retirement in 2017. He was reappointed as a Senior Police Officer and served as a School Resource Officer in the Third District until his passing.

Officer Williams is survived by his wife, four children, and granddaughter.
